Piers & Marine Construction
Selective Demolition for Jetties, Docks, Piers, Bridges, and Dams
Cutting Technologies (CTI) supports several capital improvement projects, even those involving bodies of water. While the added aquatic challenges may be intimidating to some companies, CTI tackles them with enthusiasm. Armed with our Specialty Equipment Arsenal,™ CTI guarantees to perform our selective demolition with precision, speed, and safety.
No Selective Demolition Job too complex
Our team has accumulated over 100 years of combined expertise in the business. With our Advanced Engineering Solutions™, we come up with the most practical and cost-effective solutions for every job we undertake.
Our competitors won’t touch some jobs, but our experience has given us the know-how to tackle practically every problem. Some frequently performed jobs include:
- Underwater concrete cutting to modify and repair refinery docks and mooring structures
- Revamping and reinforcing various marine structures
Critical Path Goals Met On Time, Every Time
Too often, do projects go over budget without meeting all the company’s objectives and expectations. That isn’t a problem with CTI. Our company consistently works hard to deliver the best quality work with minimal time.
With our CTI’s Smooth Project Plan™ and FASTrack Process™ programs, CTI’s team of expert engineers, project managers, and construction technicians take coordination and execution to a whole new level. After meticulously mapping out a gameplan, our team quickly works with the utmost discipline and professionalism to ensure your project is finished on or before its due date. In addition, our Rapid Response Team™ program swiftly mobilizes a team to address your emergency demolition needs to ensure your project doesn’t go sideways.
Quick and Top Quality Work done Safely
Accidents not only add unnecessary costs but also reduce the reliability of a company. With this in mind, CTI has developed the Safety Matters™ program to protect all on-site workers and aggressively manage risk at any and every job site.
Featured Projects
Marine Pier, performed for IMTT-Bayonne, Inc.
Working sequentially across 42 sections of the pier, CTI employed wire saws, slab saws, core drills, and robotic demolition units to cut and remove the deck, beams, piles, pier caps, and foundations. This effectively cleared the way for new sections to be built in their place.
CTI’s technicians, aided by divers, braved difficult working conditions, extreme tidal changes, and fierce underwater currents to successfully cut and remove nearly 10 million pounds of heavily reinforced concrete ahead of schedule with no accidents or injuries.
Refinery Dock and Seawall, performed for Valero Energy Corporation
CTI faced a difficult challenge in revamping Valero Energy Corporation’s refinery dock and seawall in Delaware. For the project, our team had to install tie rods into the concrete seawall after core drilling 4-inch diameter holes into it. Realizing one part of the wall was beyond repair, our technicians employed diamond wire sawing to break down the wall into manageable sections before safely removing it.
While excavating the riverbank to install the tie rods, we discovered several bollard foundations. Weighing 70 tons each, our team used diamond wire sawing yet again to safely and efficiently remove them.
Throughout the project’s winter schedule, we balanced rapid progress with unparalleled worker safety to complete the project in three months. We achieved this under budget and without any accidents or lost-time incidents.
Sonar Dome, performed for United States Navy
When the US Navy was about to scrap the USS Yorktown, they wanted to salvage the sonar dome at the fore section of its hull. They then approached us for this job, as it required the utmost precision. Our team of engineers then looked to diamond wire sawing as the most practical and cost-efficient solution to this tricky situation.
Our technicians constructed guide sheaves, which drew the diamond wires along a calculated path, precisely separating the sonar dome from the remaining hull. After the team affixed the sheaves to a framework made of steel I-beams, the team quickly got to work sawing the structure. The sonar dome was removed in perfect condition, ready to be reused and renewed.
